Canadian Trade Mission Announced
03/24/2009

The Huntington Area Development Council (HADCO) recently hosted a luncheon for local companies interested in participating in a trade mission to Canada. Representatives from the US Commercial Service and WV Development Office outlined the Gold Key Service program, a cost-effective and time-saving method of increasing their market potential.

The Canadian Trade Mission will be June 1-5 in Toronto and Montreal. Local businesses will engage in appointments with qualified, pre-screened prospects, allowing them the opportunity to meet potential agents and distributors. In addition to the appointments, evening receptions will be hosted in each city by the Consulate General’s Office to further networking opportunities.

Gerald McDonald, HADCO President, states, “Several local companies have been successfully conducting business in Canada. Businesses that have not been involved, or are looking to expand their presence in Canada, should find this program an effective way to explore additional markets.”

According to Caitlyn Ashley, International Trade Representative for the WV Development Office, West Virginia exported $1.2 billion in goods to Canada in 2007. Sales increased 8% in 2008, and continued growth is expected in 2009.
