HUNTINGTON -- Online retailer Amazon.com will hire an additional 100 full-time customer service positions at the Huntington call center for year-round work and the 2005 holiday season, the company announced Wednesday.
Amazon.com opened the Huntington call center in 2000. Though the company won't give specific employment figures for the Huntington facility, employment has grown from 100 in 2001 to more than 300 currently.
"We have a great employment base on which to draw," said Patty Smith, spokeswoman with Amazon.com. "We get many employees from Marshall University."
The company will retain new hires who want to stay after the holiday season, Smith said. The jobs, however, also are appropriate for those looking for seasonal employment during the winter, she said.
The Huntington facility, located in the Jean Dean Public Safety Building on 10th Street, handles customer questions for Amazon.com orders as well as for the company's retail partners such as Target.com, The Bombay Company and Bebe Stores, Inc.
